چکیده

High resolution and noncontacted measurement tools for the dynamic characterization of micro devices are necessary to develop high performance/precision and reliable microelectromechanical systems (MEMS). In this paper, a three-dimensional dynamic measurement system based on stroboscopic and interferometric methods is presented. This system can capture bright-fielded and interferometric images at the same time and will not have any phase error when constructing three-dimensional solidmodels. The accuracy of in-plane motion measurement using this system has been calibrated by using piezoelectric nano-platform. The measurement of in-plane motions of the comb-drive actuator using this developed tool have been demonstrated.

This paper proposes the development of a Raman spectroscopy system which has capabilities to characterize the motion of high frequency MEMS/NEMS and devices without surface features. Raman spectroscopy is being increasingly used as a technique to characterize such devices to overcome inconveniences of other optical measurement techniques which include laser vibrometer, stroboscopic imaging, int...

Study of Laminated Composite MEMS and NEMS Performance in Nano Metric Operations

Precision of nano-metric operations is an important issue in nano-engineering studies. Several operative parameters might affect the quality of results. The parameters of the nano world are significant but not entirely controllable. However, the geometrical and mechanical properties of micro cantilevers are completely controllable. So, controlling the sensitivity of resulting image through t la...

Dynamics of a Canonical Electrostatic Mems/nems System

The mass-spring model of electrostatically actuated microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) or nanoelectromechanical systems (NEMS) is pervasive in the MEMS and NEMS literature. Nonetheless a rigorous analysis of this model does not exist. Here periodic solutions of the canonical mass-spring model in the viscosity dominated time harmonic regime are studied. Ranges of the dimensionless average app...

From MEMS to NEMS: Modelling and characterization of the non linear dynamics of resonators, a way to enhance the dynamic range

The resonant sensing technique is highly sensitive, has the potential for large dynamic range, good linearity, low noise and potentially low power. The detection principle is based on frequency change that is induced by rigidity changes in the resonator. In order to compensate the loss of performances when scaling sensors down to NEMS, it proves convenient to find physical conditions in order t...

Nanotube MEMS: Modeling extreme nanoscale devices

The physics of operation of nanotube NEMS devices is reviewed. Special attention is paid to non-classical effects, rarely described in MEMS analysis, such as van der Waals/Casimir interactions, quantum effects in electrostatics, atomistic parameterization of elasticity. As an example of a breakdown of a classical MEMS theory, the NEMS scaling limitation is derived in a lump model taking into ac...
